     “You know those nights...? When it’s totally dark... and absolutely... silent? And you don’t dream... and there’s only... blackness. And this is the reason... it’s because on those nights, you’ve gone away. On those nights, you’re in someone else’s dream. You’re busy... in someone else’s dream. Some things are just pictures. They’re scenes before your eyes. Don’t look now... I’m right behind you.”
— Laurie Anderson, The Ugly One With the Jewels: “Someone Else’s Dream”

You’re here now. This page is to provide descriptions of the links shown below, since they have somewhat uninformative names. Think of it as a stylish help file. It will also serve as a catalog of updates and additions to my site.

: :: ::: [ L I F E ] ::: :: :
Everything you might have wanted to know about me, the regent of this little slice of the Web. Well, not everything. Information on where I live, where I work, what I do, how I do it, and a few opinions on all of it.

: :: ::: [ M I N D ] ::: :: :
If you’re not psychic, you can learn more about the way I think and talk by visiting this section. For now, this will mostly be a way station that links to my LiveJournal.

: :: ::: [ U M B R A ] ::: :: :
Links to other systems, the subject of which is space exploration, information, research, and the advocacy of such. Information about specific missions is also presented.

: :: ::: [ J U N C T I O N ] ::: :: :
A catalog of people with whom I share a bond. Without them I would be a lowly dog and they know it. For some reason, they still like me.

: :: ::: [ C O R R E S P O N D E N C E ] ::: :: :
Methods by which you can contact me. Electronic mail, ICQ, AIM, Yahoo, a few games, et cetera.

: :: ::: [ S P I R I T ] ::: :: :
I enjoy prose and poetry. Feel free to judge whether or not I’m any good. I haven’t written anything new in a while, but there are also a few hypertext links to people who write and projects meant to promote writing.

Things to amuse, distract and generally keep your day from becoming too stagnant. Web comics, games, pretty pictures, and whatever else I think is a good waste of my precious time.

     Below is a list of recent changes to this site. All the pages here should display rather nicely on whatever browser you choose to use and no matter the resolution of your monitor. I haven’t coded for all the non-visual rendering the W3C wants me to code for, but if your browser is speaking this to you right now, I guess I did well enough. This place isn’t image-intensive anyway. Well, OK, it is, but not in actual content. Just some pretty pictures here and there to break up the monotony of a lot paragraphs of white text. Fonts in use on this site are Bernhard Modern BT (graphics only), Courier, Gradl (graphics only), Times New Roman, Verdana and Vorlon (graphics only).

:11:20:2004:
     Where the hell have I been? It’s been almost a year since I bothered to update anything. There is a new set of haiku over on [SPIRIT] and I finished up my chosen space exploration missions over on [UMBRA]. I also deleted a certain heartless bitch or two from [JUNCTION] while at the same time keeping a few URLs up-to-date. A few small changes to the stylesheet. If you’re not using FireFox, you should be. Even if you aren’t, IE and others should give you little trouble. More to come!

:02:09:2004:
     Well now. Finally this site has a home once more. Thanks to the generous assistance of the Super Dimensional Fortress I am, as they say, “back on the air.”

:07:09:2003:
     [UMBRA] finally exists; it even has content. I added a title graphic to The Haunted and fixed a couple of repeated one-liners. And naturally, I updated [PRIME] to include a hyperlink and description of [UMBRA].

:07:03:2003:
     I’ve run into an irritating problem with the width of the central table cell and the forced justification of all my text. If a word is in italics and appears just before a line-break enforced by the table, the last letter is sometimes cut in half. Sometimes, more than half is lost, and if this is the case, the browser (IE, at least) not only prints the partial word on one line, but prints the entire word again on the next line! Grrr. I removed the ‘font-weight: bold’ directive from the style sheet, which seems to have helped a little. Argh. This has had the side effect of rendering my 'runin' style mode ineffective, which is annoying, since I now have no good way to call out quotations I make in-line. I also updated Internet Explorer (ugh) and it seems to have better word wrapping functionality. The consensus among people whose opinion I trust, however, is that the site looks better without the bold text anyway, so I left it off. Enjoy.
     I was also persuaded to put my Cinderella story up again. It’s over on [SPIRIT].

:07:04:2003:
     I freshened up a lot of pages (including [LIFE]), added some new images to the poems on [SPIRIT], made sure all the links to outside sites are working properly. [ENTROPY] got the most work over all, since it had absolutely nothing before. Have a look around!

:07:02:2003:
     I’ve been very lazy indeed. It’s time and past time I made an update and finished working on this place. All my time seems to be caught up in work or Earth & Beyond. Bah.

:03:24:2002:
     I’m still working on [SPIRIT] but things are much closer to being finished in that section. Maybe I’m just a lazy-bones. I’m also considering a section called [UMBRA] that will house some science and space-related links since I don’t quite feel right lumping them in with the stuff I have planned for [ENTROPY].

:11:28:2001:
     Well. After a bit of an hiatus, I’ve finally started working on making this site whole once more. [SPIRIT] is my current focus. And I know I’ve said it before, but, it’s hard to come up with so many quotes. Well, it’s hard to come up with appropriate quotes.

:08:23:2001:
     I finally got Acrobat to make a decent PDF of my résumé. I hate Microsoft Word, but at least it was able to produce a legible file with most of the proper fonts; something the 6.1 version of WordPerfect was unable to accomplish. I had to make some concessions because for some reason, Acrobat will not embed the font I’ve been using to make a bulleted list. But overall, it looks pretty nice. And realistically, I’m just happy to be able to make PDFs.

:06:29:2001:
     I contacted Øystein Ramfjord of Amethystium and obtained permission to use the little square graphics he’s been using to decorate his MP3.com site. On pages where I use them, an extra line will appear in the copyright information at the bottom of the page, linking to the MP3.com site in grateful support of music I really enjoy. Thanks!

:06:28:2001:
     I’ve completed the majority of LIFE, including several sub-pages. The toughest part about this redesign is that I’ve decided each and every page should have an appropriate quote at the top and a catchy one-liner at the bottom (which may or may not be less appropriate than the quote at the top). It’s getting really tough to come up with new quotes. If you have any ideas or think I have one totally wrong, drop me a line: ZorkFox.

:06:21:2001:
     I am such a stud. Ph34r my 31337 H7M1 s|<i11z! I finally found a way to make Netscape display this page PROPERLY. Go ahead, Netscape! Do your worst! I hate you! Die!!

:06.12.2001:
     I have rebuilt the stylesheet from scratch. I have also switched from using <blockquote> tags to simply altering the width of the left and right table cells to achieve the indentation effect I want. I know the W3C says I should use stylesheets to define layout on the page, but it just isn’t supported well enough. At least getting away from <blockquote> tags solves some problems with Opera. Now if only I could figure out why it won’t let me change the font of hyperlinks....
     EXTRA: Netscape is still choking on the stylesheet. It seems that if you use a table anywhere in your text, it automagically prevents any text following the table from using the stylesheet data. How messed up is THAT?! Grrrr!

:06.06.2001:
     Netscape is such a hopelessly stupid program. If you use a <table> tag, it negates any and all stylesheet data that’s meant to affect text after the table. Having discovered this (again) after so many years upsets me, but I managed to find a workaround so the page will display properly in both Internet Explorer and Netscape. Nevermind that the workaround is totally illogical. This is all a terrible strain on my circuits.

:06.01.2001:
     It was pointed out to me that PRIME was practically illegible because it was just a big block of white text with nothing to separate the different pieces. I’ve retooled this page and hopefully, things are a little more organized and easy to read. You be the referee.

:05.31.2001:
     I’ve added the JUNCTION section and I’ve changed the background images to something that isn’t quite so dark. J’wyl says it doesn’t look so much like a “waterbed” anymore. Interesting similie.

:06.03.2001:
     Much rearranging of quotes has been done. I’m still not anywhere near satisfaction on that job, though.

:05.30.2001:
     Each section now has a page of its own. Some of the hypertext links on those pages don’t work yet, but none of the primary navigation links should ever cause you a 404 error. I’m thinking of adding a new section called JUNCTION instead of listing friends on the CORRESPONDENCE page.

Your ticket to the future is always open.
